Dr. Kathleen Peters co-founded Gardiner Family Chiropractic together with Dr. Paul Pidgeon in 1989. She counts it an amazing honor to have been an integral part of the community and its health care team for nearly three decades.
She loves helping people feel better and teaching them about how to better care for themselves. She uses her hands and the special instruments and tables in the office to help with comfortable adjustments along with physiotherapeutic modalities to help relieve pain, muscle tension, and inflammation. Additionally, she enjoys instructing her patients on proper ergonomics both for activities at home and at work, stretches and exercises, and offering advice on nutritional and herbal support as indicated to speed along a person's recovery. Her favorite part of GFC is working with terrific coworkers and patients. She has found that, while appointments here are very focused on delivering excellent adjustments and addressing health issues, they also feel like visits between friends. She feels very lucky indeed!
Dr. Peters is originally from Michigan. She graduated cum laude from National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Illinois in 1984. She attended undergraduate studies at Michigan State University and holds a degree in Human Biology. After co-owning an office in Chicago for several years she decided that Maine was really a better place to live. She took a two-year hiatus between practices and backpacked around the world, caring for Peace Corp workers, International Volunteers, and local residents in many countries, particularly Southeast Asia, Nepal, and the Middle East.
In addition to techniques mastered to gain her Doctorate and those learned abroad, Dr. Peters is certified in Cox Flexion Distraction technique. This method is especially effective for caring for spinal disc problems. She is also certified in Kinesiotaping. Her patients have found this to be remarkably helpful in treating traumatic and athletic injuries as well as chronic issues like tendinitis, bursitis and plantar fascitis. She has attended dozens of seminars on a variety of techniques to augment her armamentarium in caring for a host of health challenges.
Dr. Peters loves to travel, to read, and to spend time with family and friends. When she is not in the office, Dr. Peters can usually be found outside on a hiking, biking, or boating excursion. She is passionate about these things and about helping her patients be healthy enough to enjoy the things that they are passionate about.
Dr. Peters is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the Maine Chiropractic Association.
